today2 February, 2024

Background

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal struck India’s first century in the high-profile five-Test series against England after lunch on the opening day of the second match on Friday.

The left-hander smashed left-arm spinner Tom Hartley for a six to reach his second Test ton after India elected to bat in Visakhapatnam.

Jaiswal, playing his sixth Test since his debut last year, made 80 in the first Indian innings of the opening match in Hyderabad.

England’s Ollie Pope hit 196 in that match for the first ton of the series to power his side to a 28-run win.

Jaiswal’s prior Test ton was for 171 against the West Indies on debut.
