Mining Sector Boosts Revenue and Employment

Background

Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah announced at the mining expo in Windhoek that the mining industry’s contribution to government revenue surged from N$ 4.4 billion in 2022 to N$ 6.8 billion in 2023. Mining remains the top sector for job creation in Namibia. She emphasized the benefits of refining domestic oil to lower costs and highlighted Namibia’s significant uranium production, which is driving new projects. Nandi-Ndaitwah also noted progress in local procurement, with 60-80% of industry supplies sourced locally, and stressed the importance of protecting Namibian ownership of natural resources and encouraging investment through clear regulations.
