today8 August, 2024

Background

Namibia is grappling with a disturbing rise in reported rape cases, severely affecting vulnerable groups, especially children. These brutal crimes leave lasting trauma for victims and their families. Statistics show that between 2019 and July 2022, approximately 4,000 women were raped. Notably, January and August 2021 alone saw nearly 700 cases, predominantly impacting women and girls. The alarming frequency of these incidents has sparked numerous protests across the country in recent years. The most recent reports on church officials being involved has exacerbated this. Psychological Counsellor, Marcella Katjijova.
