Transport, housing, and food drive 4.6% inflation rate

The Namibia Statistics Agency has reported that transport, housing, water, electricity, gas, other fuels, and food and non-alcoholic beverages were the biggest contributors to the 4.6 percent annual inflation rate in July, each contributing 1.0 percentage points. NSA spokesperson Mirjam Shihepo breaks down the numbers.

According to the NSA’s July 2024 report, inflation rates varied by zone: Zone 2 (Khomas region) had the highest rate at 5.0%, Zone 1 (Kavango East, Kavango West, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa, and Zambezi regions) followed at 4.6%, and Zone 3 (//Kharas, Erongo, Hardap, Omaheke regions) recorded a 3.8% rate.

Consumers in Zone 2 paid the highest price for beef stew (N$92.59/kg), while Zone 1 had the lowest (N$88.22/kg). For Rooibos tea bags, Zone 3 paid the most (N$34.66/100g), and Zone 2 paid the least (N$32.03/100g).
