Media Release: Old Mutual Foundation Empowers Communities Through Staff
Community Builder Initiative

2 October 2024, Windhoek – In line with Old Mutual’s vision to empower communities, the Old Mutual Foundation’s Staff Community Builder initiative continues to demonstrate impactful community support. Over the past three years (2022-2024), this flagship initiative has enabled 30 Old Mutual staff
members to actively engage in community projects across Namibia, with a cumulative impact of N$300 000.

The Staff Community Builder programme allows permanent Old Mutual Namibia employees to apply for funding to support community projects they are personally involved in or which they wish to empower. These initiatives align with the Old Mutual Foundation’s strategic pillars of Financial Well-Being,
Community Development, Education, and Skills. Annually, N$100 000 is dedicated to supporting ten projects, each receiving N$10 000 to support local communities.

In 2024, the projects spanned multiple regions and addressed diverse community needs. Among the key beneficiaries include:

In the Hardap Region, the Klein Begin Soup Kitchen, which serves around 200 children aged 5 to 15, received groceries to ensure ongoing support for vulnerable youth. In the Khomas Region, the Children Life Change Orphanage, home to 39 children, benefited from essential groceries and electricity tokens. Additionally, the Meddling Minds Foundation donated 1 250 sanitary pads to schoolgirls at Namibia Primary School, Havana Project School, and Jan Möhr Secondary School, while the Petwa Foundation also contributed sanitary pads to various schools in Windhoek.

In the Kavango East Region, school uniforms were distributed to learners at Kamutjonga Primary School in the Mukwe Circuit, helping students attend school with confidence. The Oshana Region saw the SOS Children’s Village in Ondangwa receive building materials and equipment, while Okatope Junior Secondary School nearby also benefited from the provision of textbooks.

In the Erongo Region, the Kings Cares Project in Walvis Bay continued its community upliftment initiatives with the support of groceries. The Omusati Region saw Okeeholongo Primary School, located approximately 125 km from Oshakati, receive a much-needed photocopy machine to enhance its administrative capabilities. Finally, in the Omaheke Region, the Otjovengi Youth Group was provided with sporting gear to help develop youth skills in the area.

Through these contributions, Old Mutual Namibia remains committed to Doing Great Things Every Day, empowering communities and supporting grassroots initiatives. This year’s contributions, focusing on critical needs such as education, food security, and youth development, reinforce Old Mutual Namibia’s unwavering commitment to creating mutually positive futures for all Namibians.

The Staff Community Builder initiative allows Old Mutual Namibia staff to take philanthropy into their own hands, elevating community projects and reaching areas that the Foundation alone may not be able to access. These collective efforts are a testament to the caring and giving nature of Old Mutual Namibia
staff, who continuously demonstrate their dedication to the people of Namibia.
