President Nangolo Mbumba stated he was unaware of any environmental concerns regarding the government’s green hydrogen project. In an interview with Deutsche Welle, he responded to critics highlighting potential environmental risks, saying it was the first time he’d heard such claims. However, environmentalists, including the Namibian Chamber of Environment, have previously raised concerns and called for the project to be halted until an environmental impact assessment is conducted, citing risks to the Tsau //Khaeb National Park, a key biodiversity hotspot in southern Namibia.
