Background

  1. Following the release of the 2023 Census Preliminary report on 13 March 2023, the NSA will be launching the 2023 Population and Housing Census Main Report tomorrow, Wednesday 30 October 2024.
  2. The Namibia Statistics Agency would like to inform the nation that this dissemination of tomorrow takes place in an impartial manner where all stakeholders will be receiving the information at the same time and thus the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) is never influenced by external sources in arriving at such decisions but rather follows the law that is in existence.
  3. In order to test the non-influence factor, the NSA data can be verified from its micro data on how the end statistics were compiled as well as some of the data that can also be verified from the national Census map that were generated in compiling the total population count.
  4. The dissemination of statistics is guided by the United Nations Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics, which guides statistical agencies in disseminating statistics. The NSA is also guided by the Statistics Act No 9 of 2011, that prescribes that statistics must be disseminated impartially to all.
  5. The Namibia National Statistics Systems Standards for Data and Statistics Dissemination further requires that all statistical reports shall be released officially by the Statistician-General or the Head of a statistical production institution or their respective representatives.
  6. To that regard, the NSA has an Advanced Release Calendar available to publicise the release dates of statistical reports in advance. The standards further indicate that all statistical reports shall be made available impartially and simultaneously to all users via institutional website and other dissemination platforms, within a period of 24 hours upon its official release as per the Advanced Release Calendar.
  7. Ever since its establishment, the NSA has performed according to the laws, standards and principles of disseminating official statistics and has no intent to deviate from such.
  8. The NSA looks forward to releasing the 2023 Main Census Report on the 30th of October 2024 and will release all thematic reports as per our Advanced Release Calendar, which is publicly available. The thematic reports to be released include: The Regional Basic Spatial Analysis Atlas, The Disability Report, The Labour Force Thematic Report, The Fertility Report, The 14 Regional Profile Reports, The Mortality Report, The Migration Report, The Agricultural Statistics Report, as well as The Population and Housing Census Atlas.
