The restoration of the OtjikaTjamuaha Holy Shrine in Okahandja, a significant cultural site for the OvaHerero community, is nearing completion. Funded by a 130,000 EUR (about 2.6 million NAD) grant from the German Embassy through its Cultural Preservation Fund, the project began in February 2023 to address years of neglect. Key works include constructing a new perimeter fence, removing lightning-damaged palm trees, dismantling a dilapidated swimming pool, and cleaning the site. The shrine, which holds the graves of prominent leaders like Tjamuaha, Maharero, and Samuel Maharero, is being preserved to honor its historical and cultural importance.
