19 January 2025 – NAMDIA confirms that the incident that occurred at its premises in the early evening hours of Saturday, 18 January 2025, has been confirmed as an armed robbery and not an attempted armed robbery as previously stated. A formal police docket has been registered under charges of Armed Robbery with Aggravating Circumstances and Murder.

NAMDIA is aware of the circulation of inaccurate reports on social media regarding the recent tragic incident at our premises. These misleading accounts are causing confusion and misinformation. We remain committed to collaborating with the Namibian Police to provide the public with accurate and verified updates.

Given the sensitive nature of the incident, NAMDIA is dedicated to ensuring that all information shared is thoroughly verified by the investigating authorities and does not compromise the ongoing investigation. Our priority is to keep stakeholders informed responsibly and transparently with a focus on our staff members’ safety and wellbeing during this tragic time.

The latest information, as confirmed by the police:
• The NAMDIA staff member who tragically lost his life was Mr. Francis “Gosh” Eiseb, our Senior Protection Officer who has been with NAMDIA since February 2019. Mr. Eiseb valiantly and bravely defended and attempted to fend off the robbers, which led to the tragic loss of his life whilst on duty. We extend our most heartfelt and deepest condolences to Mr. Eiseb’s wife, children, grandchildren, and entire bereaved family.
• The suspects fled with an unspecified amount of NAMDIA’s diamonds, the value of which is still to be ascertained.
• There were four suspects involved in the robbery.
• Two suspects are currently on the run.
• One suspect is in police custody.
• One suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the incident.

We urge the public to sympathise with the bereaved family members and NAMDIA staff who are deeply affected by this incident and caution the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and to rely on official updates from NAMDIA and law enforcement authorities. Additionally, we encourage anyone with information that could assist in the capture of the two remaining suspects to come forward and contact the Namibian Police immediately.

NAMDIA remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding its staff and operations. We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure that this unfortunate incident receives all the necessary resources required to resolve the case.

A joint Media Conference between NAMDIA and the Namibian Police Force will be announced imminently.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this difficult time.
