The Khomas Region and Angola’s Cunene Province are exploring avenues for cooperation to address shared challenges faced by their local authorities. This initiative is part of a week-long visit by a delegation from Cunene Province, aimed at establishing a twinning agreement between the two regions.

The proposed partnership seeks to foster collaboration in sectors such as education, agriculture, healthcare, waste management, and housing. By pooling resources and expertise, the regions hope to develop sustainable solutions to their common issues.

During the visit, the Cunene delegation will engage in extensive site visits and consultations. These include tours of project sites, schools, healthcare facilities, and ministerial offices within the Khomas Region. These activities are intended to provide the delegation with insights into the region’s infrastructure and ongoing initiatives.

The Governor of the Khomas Region, Laura McLeod-Katjirua, highlighted the importance of this partnership in addressing pressing regional challenges. She said the twinning agreement has the potential to promote mutual development and strengthen ties between Namibia and Angola.

“We are actually at an advanced stage in regard to our cooperative agreement because the Commerce Regional Council has already been invited through the Ministry of International Relations to visit Angola to try and cement this cooperation. In actual fact, they are saying they really want to learn from us because they believe we have gone a step ahead,” McLeod-Katjirua said.

She further outlined the delegation’s itinerary: “Today we are going to continue and we are going to start with housing, we will continue with visiting Havana High School and then we will continue to the Ministry of Health.”

This collaboration marks a significant step towards fostering regional solidarity and creating lasting solutions to improve the livelihoods of communities in both regions.
