A truck was damaged by fire on the B2 highway near Swakopmund on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Warrant Officer Tuyenikelao Tashiya-Fernando from the Erongo police, the 28-year-old driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.

“The driver, who was driving alone from Walvis Bay to Windhoek, smelled electrical burning as he was approaching the Swakopmund roadblock. He applied the brakes to stop the truck, but it continued moving forward.”

“The driver managed to stop the truck by pulling up its hand brake. When he safely got out of the truck, he realised that the truck was burning,” said Tashiya-Fernando.

The police responded swiftly to the scene and the fire was suppressed by the Swakomund fire brigade.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
