North Korea may be preparing for Putin visit

Satellite images suggest North Korea’s main airport may be preparing for the arrival of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Kyodo News reports planes have been cleared from the tarmac at Pyongyang which usually precedes state visits. As Chris Gilbert reports for us.

S Korea president urging cooperation over forced labour compensation

South Korea’s president is urging businesses in the country to co-operate with companies in Japan in paying damages to the victims of historical cases of forced labour. It comes after Korea’s top court in December upheld decisions ordering Japanese companies to compensate the families of victims who worked without pay under Japan’s colonial rule. North Korea launches first military spy satellite

North Korea has successfully launched its first military spy satellite into space from the Sohae Satellite Launching Station. North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un oversaw the launch, claiming that the Malligyong-1 military reconnaissance satellite is now in orbit. The development raises concerns as it could provide North Korea with an unprecedented ability to monitor the military activities of the United States and South Korea.
