The seven-year electricity distribution joint-venture (JV) between the Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored), and the Okahandja Municipality was on Tuesday dissolved and incorporated into Cenored’s businesses empire. This was announced by Cenored board chairperson, Kandali Iyambo on Tuesday at Okahandja in the presence of several Cenored board members, executives and the local authority councillors of Okahandja.

Iyambo at the event stated that from now onward the electricity network infrastructure of Okahandja will belong to Cenored, and in return the Okahandja Municipality will become a shareholder of Cenored with 9 per cent.“Therefore, what we used to call a Cenored-Okahandja JV partnership is now no more,” said Iyambo.
She thus encouraged the Okahandja Municipality’s chief executive officer (CEO), Alfons Tjitombo who will represent Okahandja on the Cenored board, to become an active board member.

Iyambo said since the inception of the Cenored-Okahandja JV in September 2016, over N.dollars 140 million was spent to revamp the electricity infrastructure in Okahandja, as well as the growth of the electricity distribution to its more than 25 000 residents, and 15 000 households reflecting on the municipality’s database.

The Okahandja Municipality was created in 1952, and since then, has been distributing and connecting electricity to residents for the past 70 years, said Tjitombo. An area manager is expected to run the Okahandja Cenored office with 30 staff members, said Cenored CEO, Fessor Mbango.
