The Oshikoto regional councillors of Okankolo and Nehale Lyampingana constituencies have complained about the poor road conditions in their constituency areas that might hinder some development activities to take place.

Okankolo constituency councillor, Hans Nambambi has singled out some of the roads that are in need of repair, in an interview with Nampa on Monday.

“We have a road from Okankolo to Onkumbula that is 47 kilometres, and it was found in the year 2001 to be upgraded but nothing has been done up to date,” Nambambi said.

He said this has led to residents asking him many questions as well as making him feel like he is not doing anything.

“The community is looking at me and asking me a lot of questions because this road caters for 10 Government schools but is very poor and sandy,” said Nambambi.

He also mentioned the Onyati and Onkumbula road that has many rocks and potholes which hinders those communities from receiving some of the basic services.

“In the past we have experienced some trouble, such as trucks that bring drought relief food getting stuck midway of the road or recently these trucks that bring water to people, they also get stuck,” said Nambambi.

He also narrated on the issue of inmates from Onkumbula police station who might experience an issue going to court at Ondangwa through this road.

“Our roads are not conducive enough as a time might come whereby the inmates from Onkumbula will be delayed to go to court due to our bumpy roads,” said Nambambi.

Nehale Lyampingana constituency councillor, Joseph Shilongo said they do not have roads in the area, only paths that were created by their communities.

“We do not have tarred roads here, neither gravel roads but only something that was created by our communities,” said Shilongo.

Shilongo appreciated the government for constructing various low-volume seal standard roads in his constituency.

“We are very happy for the government for bringing this infrastructure to us because eventually they will bring more development,” he said.

He also raised concern on the issue of water where some people depend on the drilled boreholes water that is very salty for their livestock.

Eengodi constituency councillor, Protasius Neshuku, said he is excited to observe contractors maintaining the main road to his area.

“I am very happy to see them along the road, however only these small roads that are going to the villages need to be upgraded,” said Neshuku.
