Windhoek, November 25, 2023 — Naemi Ekandjo and Josephina Kanyeumbo, participants in the Katuka Mentorship Programme, are celebrating personal growth, career advancement, and increased self-esteem through the initiative.

Naemi Ekandjo, a registered nurse, shared her journey of newfound confidence, stating, “I used to be fearful. The Programme has allowed me to face my fears. I can now express myself more and confront my fears.” Josephina Kanyeumbo, a Senior Economist from the Ministry of Finance, credited the mentorship for making her a better person by helping her focus on goals in a structured way. She gained industry knowledge and represented Namibia on the Financial Inclusion Sub-committee in the Southern African Development Committee (SADC), a feat she attributes to stepping out of her comfort zone due to the Programme’s exposure.

Bank Windhoek’s Head of Strategic Communication, Hayley Allen, expressed the bank’s pride as a sponsor since 2020, stating, “This journey allows people access to information and expertise and, particularly, allows ordinary, aspiring women access to what other ordinary women with experience have encountered on their paths to business success.”

Aligned with the objectives of increasing participation, exposure, and influence, the Katuka Mentorship Programme celebrated the achievements of 21 mentors and 24 mentees on Thursday, November 23, 2023, in Windhoek. Hayley Allen congratulated the Programme for equipping and empowering women to take charge of their destinies.

Participants Ekandjo and Kanyeumbo encouraged other women to join, emphasizing the empowering nature of the Programme. Kanyeumbo stated, “Bank Windhoek supports Namibian women through this Programme. It is empowering, and we are learning from each other and building long-lasting relationships.”

Desèré Lundon-Muller, Organiser of Namibian Businesswomen Projects, expressed sincere appreciation to Bank Windhoek for its commitment to the development of women in Namibia.

Launched in 2001, the Katuka Mentorship Programme aims to empower entrepreneurs, businesswomen, and professionals by matching mentees with mentors who share similar interests. The Programme focuses on creating a platform for personal growth and leadership advancement. To date, 485 entrepreneurs and businesswomen have completed the Programme, marking its significant impact on individual and institutional success.
