The Otjiwarongo Municipality’s local authority council on Tuesday re-elected its office bearers to their respective positions.

Mayor Gottlieb Shivute successfully retained his position after being nominated and seconded by fellow councillors. Deputy Town Mayor Julienda Kampungu also returned to her position through a unanimous vote.

The councillors further re-elected Godhardt Hoko as the chairperson of the municipality’s management committee, alongside Hilsa Jesaja and Sebetius Guiteb. Gideon Iiyambo was appointed as an additional member of the management committee. Jesaja and Guiteb have served on the committee for the past two years.

Local Authority Councillor Ernst Muraranganda was absent from the internal elections, citing personal reasons. He will continue to serve as an ordinary council member.

Magistrate Immanuel Udjombala presided over the swearing-in ceremony.

Shivute, Kampungu, Hoko, and Jesaja are from the Swapo Party. Guiteb is a member of the Landless People’s Movement (LPM), Muraranganda represents the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), and Iiyambo is affiliated with the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC).

The seven councillors are slated to serve in their respective positions until November 2024.
