In a splendid ceremony held at the Windhoek Country Club and Resort this morning, the International Open Learning (IOL) celebrated its annual graduation, marking a significant milestone for 860 graduates, their families, and friends. The pact venue bore witness to one of the largest gatherings of graduates in the field of education this year.

“IOL has always been committed to providing quality education to Namibians, breaking barriers and making higher education accessible to all,” remarked Mr. Pieter van Vuuren, the Registrar, as he congratulated each graduate individually.

Prior to the commencement of the individual recognitions, Ms. Ilana Calitz, the CEO of IOL, delivered a passionate speech emphasizing the success of distance education. She highlighted the institution’s role as a beacon of light, breaking geographical boundaries and offering educational qualifications that empower individuals to pursue their dreams.

“Our institution stands as a testament to the power of knowledge, the resilience of the human spirit, and the boundless possibilities that technology and innovation bring to education,” Ms. Calitz passionately expressed.

As a subsidiary of Trustco Group Holdings, IOL ensures equal access to quality higher education for all its staff, contributing to the betterment of lives. “IOL takes pride in being a partner with the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture (MoEAC) to ensure education reaches every corner of our beloved country,” she added.

Ms. Edda Bohn, Deputy Executive Director for formal education in the MoEAC, served as the guest speaker at the ceremony. She openly addressed the challenges within Namibia’s education system, urging graduates to be agents of change and tackle systemic issues such as inadequate infrastructure and resource disparities.

“Your education journey hasn’t been devoid of obstacles, it has been a testament to resilience and determination. However, beyond personal triumphs, there are systemic challenges within our educational systems, challenges that demand our collective attention,” Ms. Bohn implored.

The occasion featured a video call keynote address by Dr. Quinton van Rooyen, Managing Director of the Trustco Group. “Through accessible education, IOL fosters lifelong learning, empowering individuals to pursue their dreams,” Dr. van Rooyen wholeheartedly congratulated the graduates. He touched upon the resilience demonstrated by past generations, ensuring the freedoms enjoyed today through Independence.

“Their dedication and sacrifices have paved the way for you, the new generation, bestowing upon you not just the gift of liberty but also the charge to preserve and strengthen it,” Dr. van Rooyen reiterated.

Amidst the celebrations, IOL took the opportunity to congratulate all the graduates for their commitment to education. “Your investment in your education is your gateway to a better future for yourself and your loved ones,” Ms. Calitz emphasized.

The ceremony concluded with the announcement of the graduate courses representing successful students this year. “Today we celebrate your accomplishments in pursuing knowledge, the cornerstone of progress,” Dr. van Rooyen said. The diverse list includes qualifications in policing, early childhood education, primary education, secondary education, and advanced certificates, showcasing the breadth of IOL’s educational offerings.

In closing, IOL in Namibia extends its heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, emphasizing that their investment in education is a gateway to a better future for themselves and their loved ones. The institution encourages graduates to make their achievements count and continue contributing to the progress and development of Namibia.
