The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has officially promoted 4 682 officers and conferred new ranks, effective from 01 December 2023.

The announcement was made by NamPol Inspector-General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, in Windhoek on Monday.

He said the promotions are a recognition of the officers’ commitment and dedication to national duties.

“A promotion should not be seen as a mere decoration, or just a reward to an officer or a member. It comes with huge responsibilities which include a high level of accountability, commitment, and honesty in upholding the rule of law,” Shikongo said.

He urged all promoted officers to continue working diligently, maintaining discipline, and enhancing service delivery.

Shikongo provided a breakdown, revealing that 1 930 officers will be promoted from constable to sergeant two, 1 445 from sergeant two to sergeant one, 600 from sergeant one to warrant officer two, and 707 from warrant officer two to warrant officer one.

He also conferred ranks upon 50 officers from various directorates and first divisions, while the remaining promotions will be executed by their respective regional commanders.

“It is important to point out that police officers should stand as unifiers, embodying fairness and impartiality. As leaders within NamPol, the onus is upon us to set an example, to foster an environment where professionalism, integrity, and accountability are the cornerstones of every action taken and decision made,” Shikongo said.
