The Freedom Front Plus in South Africa says the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the Electoral Amendment Act provides more certainty that next year’s elections will indeed take place. The court ruled that independent candidates will only need to obtain one-thousand signatures to register for the elections. However, the apex court dismissed the Independent Candidates Association’s of the constitutionality of the act, saying it passes constitutional muster. FF Plus leader, Pieter Groenewald, says the ruling on independent candidates is very much welcomed.
