Social worker says harmful cultural practices contribute to GBV

Gender-based violence against women and children is believed to be pervasive in various cultural practices at Opuwo, as women and girls are targeted in what appears to be a lengthy cycle of GBV. GBV has been a prevalent issue in society for a long time, and the number appears to be rising. This is according to Ngaitjitue Hengari, a social worker at the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, who was motivating her inputs on Tuesday during a capacity-building training for radio engagement on issues of GBV, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and mental health and psychosocial support.
