Ministry of Information declared that there would be no extension for SIM card registration

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology’s Executive Director, Audrin Mathe, declared that there would be no extension for SIM card registration, and unregistered cards will face a three-month blockage. Mathe reiterated that the deadline for SIM card registration remains December 31, 2023.  Addressing concerns raised by local banks regarding the process, Mathe indicated the banks should not have waited until two weeks prior to the conclusion of the registration process. Additionally, during the same event, Patience Kanalelo, Head of Corporate Legal Services at Mobile Telecommunications Limited, mentioned that currently, 40 percent of subscribers have completed the registration process for their SIM cards.
