Guinas constituency councillor Marthinu Kainda hosted a Christmas party for 148 pensioners from marginalised communities in the Tsintsabis settlement on Wednesday.

Speaking during the party held at Tsintsabis, Kainda said he has lost his parents and grandparents, and having the chance to socialise with pensioners during the event feels like a blessing on its own. He also wants to give them recognition for the roles the play.

“Our elders are essential in our society. They are the only ones to give advice and transfer knowledge to the young generation,” he said.

He also donated food parcels consisting of 10 kilogrammes of maize meal, cooking oil, onions, meat and sugar to the pensioners.

Kainda further urged the youth in his constituency to behave and to not get involved in criminal activities during the festive season.

“Let us not try to do things that do not suit this time because this is a time for sharing love,” Kainda said.
Justina Kabises, 104, expresed her happiness at the event.

“God should bless our councillor and those who have done something for us to celebrate today,” said Kabises.
She encouraged leaders in other parts of the country to do the same for elderly people.
