US President Joe Biden says his top rival for the White House, Donald Trump, poses an existential threat to the country. In a speech on Friday, Mr Biden warned that “democracy is on the ballot” this year and that if Trump wins the vote, he could become “a dictator on day one.” The address, at a historic Revolutionary War site, marked three years since the deadly January 6th assault on the United States Capitol, when a mob of supporters of then-President Trump stormed Congress in an effort to overturn his 2020 election defeat. Our Washington correspondent Benji Hyer reports.
