In a recent interview, Keshia Damases Ipinge, founder of the Alcohol-Free Futures Support Group, shed light on her motivations and the impact of her initiative aiming to assist individuals struggling with alcohol abuse.

During the discussion, Ms. Ipinge shared her personal journey, revealing that her past experiences with alcoholism prompted her to create the support group. Having battled with alcohol abuse since the age of 16, she realized the destructive nature of excessive drinking firsthand.

“Quitting alcohol not only changed my life but also allowed me to experience the benefits of a sober lifestyle. I wanted to share this positivity and help others in their journey towards sobriety,” Ms. Ipinge explained.

Reflecting on the timing of her online launch in November-December, a period marked by increased alcohol consumption during social gatherings, Ms. Ipinge expressed her commitment to raising awareness and support during challenging times.

Despite encountering a mixed reception to her posts, with some individuals hesitant to acknowledge the need for change, Ms. Ipinge remains hopeful that her message will resonate and eventually prompt positive transformations.

Currently, the initiative primarily operates through a WhatsApp support group with 13 members actively engaged in motivational discussions and support related to alcohol cessation.

When asked about her advice for those struggling with alcohol or substance abuse, Ms. Ipinge emphasized the importance of quitting alcohol. Drawing from her own experiences, she highlighted how alcohol abuse had devastated families and affected her personal life, leading to dropping out of school. However, upon embracing sobriety, she was able to regain her self-worth, focus, and eventually return to education, currently set to graduate this April.

“I urge those struggling with alcohol abuse to consider quitting. It’s a journey, but it’s worth it,” Ms. Ipinge asserted.

The conversation concluded with Ms. Ipinge expressing gratitude for the opportunity to share her story and the mission of the Alcohol-Free Futures Support Group.

The interview, conducted across various media outlets including Fresh FM, Radio Wave, and NOVA 103.5, showcased Ms. Ipinge’s dedication to assisting individuals battling alcohol abuse and her commitment to fostering a supportive community for recovery.
