Background

In a late-night conversation with Future Media News, McHenry Venaani shared his concerns regarding the colors displayed in the attire of the Namibian national football team, the Brave Warriors, at the AFCON soccer tournament. This discussion highlighted potential political undertones overshadowing the representation of Namibia through sports.

Venaani,  expressed unease about the soccer team’s uniform, indicating that it seemed to exhibit more of the SWAPO party’s colors than the inclusive representation of the entire nation. He emphasized the importance of reflecting the national flag’s colors in sports apparel, specifically mentioning the absence of yellow and white elements in the team’s shirts, which he deemed necessary for promoting national unity.

The Popular Democratic Movement leader underscored the significance of sports as a unifying factor for the country and stressed that it should transcend political affiliations. Venaani urged for inclusivity in representing all national colors in the sports attire, aligning with the flag’s symbolic unity for Namibians.

Throughout the conversation, Venaani highlighted the vital role sports play in bringing the nation together, emphasizing the need for neutrality and avoiding political connotations, particularly in sports-related matters.
