Future Media News took time out to speak with Lifalaza Simataa from Namibia’s Landless People’s on the topic of “Politicization Claims and Vision for Equitable Governance”. Here is the full article.

“In a recent statement responding to claims made by the South African president and leading party officials regarding potential policy reversals if they were to lose power, the Landless People’s Movement (LPM) emphasized a commitment to non-partisanship in governance. The party, known for its center-left ideology, aims to ensure that government policies benefit all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

The statement addressed the common political strategy of suggesting that the achievements of the current government would be dismantled if another party comes into power. The LPM challenged this notion, asserting that a radical shift in policies is not a standard outcome when governments change. Instead, the party emphasized a focus on continual improvement and fine-tuning of existing policies.

The LPM clarified that its critique of certain policies, such as the Namibia Students Financial Assistance (NASFA), does not imply a call for their complete removal. Rather, the party advocates for constructive criticism, asking for adjustments and improvements to better benefit the people. The LPM highlighted its active participation in parliamentary committees, where members pose questions and seek clarification on existing policies.

Looking ahead to the upcoming elections, the LPM reinforced its commitment to center-left principles, emphasizing the importance of government intervention to maintain societal balance. The party aims to address issues not only by ensuring optimal functionality of existing policies but also by creating leeway for citizens to thrive without excessive reliance on social grants.

The statement underscored the LPM’s dedication to evaluating and enhancing sectors critical to citizens’ well-being, such as education and entrepreneurship. The party discussed its efforts to open opportunities in industries like small-scale mining, emphasizing fairness and equitable distribution of benefits.

The LPM concluded by mentioning its recent policy conference, where scholars from various fields discussed topics ranging from agrarian reform to artificial intelligence and social justice. These discussions will contribute to the formulation of policies that reflect the party’s vision for an inclusive and progressive Namibia.

As Namibia approaches the elections, the LPM aims to provide clear policies that demonstrate its commitment to improving the lives of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.”
