A 40-year-old official from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Johannes Haufiku, made his initial appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Haufiku, arrested last Thursday, is accused of transporting 39 private animal feed bags without an official permit. Magistrate Sonia Samupofu granted him bail of N$3000 during the hearing. The case has been postponed to April 25, awaiting a decision from the Prosecutor General’s office. Haufiku has opted to represent himself in his defense. Allegations suggest he intended to transport the bags from Sauyemwa informal settlement to his residence in Tuhingireni informal settlement.
