The South African Human Rights Commission has unveiled its report on the July 2021 riots, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. Contrary to expectations, the commission stated that it remains unclear what the common purpose or intention behind the violence was, and no direct link to former President Jacob Zuma’s imprisonment could be established. Commissioner Philile Ntuli emphasized the need for improved intelligence gathering in light of the challenges encountered during the investigation.
