In the wake of President Hage Geingob’s passing, a number of voices have attested to the flourishing of press freedom in Namibia under his leadership. With the country historically known for its commitment to press freedom, consistently ranking high in global indices, we spoke to Zoé Titus, Director at Namibia Media Trust.

Namibia ranks 22 out of 180 in the 2023 World Press Freedom Index. It has dropped 4 places, from number 18 last year. However, it reclaimed the top position on press freedom in Africa, which was held by Seychelles in 2022.
