Higher Education Minister Asserts Inability to be Dismissed Amid Allegations

today23 February, 2024

Background

Higher Education, Training, and Innovation Minister, Dr. Itah Kandjii-Murangi, asserts that former President Hage Geingob could not dismiss her over alleged corruption because he was aware of the facts. Last year, calls for her resignation and dismissal arose following reports of undue payments in subsistence and travel allowances. Allegations suggested that the minister used her political influence to coerce state-owned institutions to cover her expenses for fully-sponsored events overseas, resulting in approximately N$2 million in subsistence and travel allowances from various entities.
