Fulfilling the late President Hage Geingob’s proposal to raise Namibia’s pension and disability grants from N$1,400 to N$3,000 could cost taxpayers approximately N$723 million monthly. Even with a more modest increase to N$2,000, taxpayers would still bear a monthly burden of N$482 million. The anticipation among 241,016 beneficiaries has been high, following Geingob’s New Year’s message expressing his hope for the increase. The Finance Minister, Iipumbu Shiimi, is expected to present the 2024/25 national budget today.
