City of Windhoek issues deadline for prepaid meter update

The City of Windhoek is updating all pre-paid electricity meters in Windhoek and is asking members of the public to cooperate with it’s officials. City spokesperson Lydia Amutenya says that the current prepaid meter system will expire on 24 November 2024 and a token change is needed to keep all the pre-paid meters working after this date.

Alleged Israeli strike hits Damascus

Thousands displaced in Mozambique due to unrest

A new outbreak of unrest in northern Mozambique by jihadist insurgency has forced thousands to flee their homes, according to UN figures and sources in Cabo Delgado province. The AFP news agency reports that an alert from the UN migration agency IOM said recent attacks in the Macomia, Chiure and Mecufi districts had displaced 13 088 people - most of them children - by bus, canoe, and on foot.

UN sanctions DRC rebel leaders

The UN has imposed an arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze against six rebel leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo amid violence in the country's east. According to the BBC, those sanctioned include the military spokesperson of the M23 rebel group, a general in the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda and two senior leaders in the Ugandan armed group Allied Democratic Forces.
