Ndapandula Kamati, Vice Chairperson of Hai//om Traditional Authority, has called upon the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture to incorporate indigenous languages into the education system. Speaking at the International Mother Language Day celebration in Tsumeb on Saturday, held in the Oshikoto Region, Kamati emphasized the importance of teaching children in their native languages. She expressed the desire for cultural pride, urging the inclusion of indigenous languages in subjects like poetry and art. Kamati also voiced disappointment over the lack of formal recognition for some languages, including hers, in Namibia, highlighting the challenges this poses for learners in pursuing their studies.
