The president of the Landless People’s Movement, Bernadus Swartbooi, and his deputy, Henny Seibeb, reportedly have not communicated for over eight months, raising concerns about the party’s cohesion leading up to the national election in November. Swartbooi and Seibeb, who co-founded the LPM in 2017, initially formed the party as a movement advocating social justice and equality. However, recent disagreements between the two leaders have led some party insiders to label the LPM as “a hotbed of gossip” and factionalism, potentially jeopardizing its unity and effectiveness in the upcoming political landscape.
