Likius Nande and Cehesta Walters emerged victorious in the first round of the 2024 Nedbank for Good Series, which took place last Saturday, 16 March at the Omeya Golf Club.

A total of 112 players, 100 men and 12 women, took part in the series opener whose aim is to raise funds for Agra ProVision. Agra Provision aims to train, service, and support underserved agricultural communities by fostering capacity building and transferring industry skills.

Nande won the men’s event by 43 points, ahead of Jean-Mark Mouton, who also scored 43 points, and third-placed Rudolf Meyer, whose score was 42 points.

In the women’s event, Walters scored 39 points ahead of Ruanda de Beer in second place and Doulaine Holtzhausen, whose score was 37 points.

Walters said she enjoyed the competition, as she had struggled a bit before Saturday’s event.

“Everything fell into place on the course. The competition amongst the ladies is always tough, so you need to be on top of your game to win. The weather was too hot, but I had to stay focused to make sure I didn’t lose my game plan. The heat was energy-sapping,” she said.

She added that she would participate in more Nedbank for Good Series event’s this year, targeting one of the coastal events. Walters thanked the sponsors for developing the sport as well as making a difference in the charities they support.

“There are a lot of women who play golf in Namibia, and the plan is to try and get them to participate in the Nedbank for Good Series,” Walters added.

The coordinator of the Nedbank for Good Series, Dan Zwiebel, said he was happy with the day’s proceedings as everything went according to plan.

“It was a hot day, but we made plans for the participants to have access to cold drinks, so they keep hydrated. We are immensely grateful to the sponsors who came on board. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to host the series successfully. We are now looking forward to our next event in Gobabis on 6 April,” he said.

Nedbank Namibia Communication and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge says that she is thrilled by the success of the first round in the Nedbank for Good Series.

“Seeing the incredible attendance in the first round of the Nedbank for Good Series sets the tone of how successful this year’s series is going to be. Not only does it bring the golf community together for a great cause, but it also showcases the power of collective action in supporting our local agricultural sector. At Nedbank Namibia, we believe in being money experts who do good, and seeing how we can come together as a collective, it’s gratifying to see out efforts manifest through events like the Nedbank for Good Series. Kudos to all participants, sponsors and organisers for joining on us this journey of making a meaningful impact,” Kaulinge shared.

After Gobabis, the series will go to Tsumeb on 8 June, Oshakati on 22 June, Mariental on 13 July, Oranjemund on 3 August, Henties Bay on 17 August, Rossmund on 24 August, Walvis Bay on 31 August and Windhoek Golf & Country Club on 14 September, with the series final is slated for 4 October at Omeya.

The 2024 Nedbank for Good Series is co-sponsored by Pupkewitz Toyota, Vivo Energy Namibia, Agra, AfricaOnline, Namibia Building Solutions, APS, Erongo Marine Enterprises, The Logistics Company Namibia, Gondwana Collection Namibia, CB Enterprises, Pupkewitz Megabuild, and official media partner Future Media.
