President Nangolo Mbumba disclosed on Thursday that the government has allocated N$8 million to rejuvenate the Kalimbeza Rice Project. The announcement was made during his keynote address at Namibia’s 34th Independence Day celebrations held in Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Region. Notably, this marks the first time Zambezi has hosted Independence Day celebrations since 1990. In addition to the funding for the rice project, President Mbumba revealed that the government has approved plans for establishing a sugar plantation on part of Kalimbeza and constructing a sugar processing plant in Katima Mulilo.
