B2Gold, a Canadian-listed company, has announced plans for approximately 300 mining workers at its Otjikoto Mine to undergo voluntary retrenchment this year. The decision comes as the mine approaches open pit closure, leading to a reduction in mining production and the need for fewer personnel. Currently employing around 890 workers, the affected employees primarily belong to the open pit mining department. B2Gold Spokesperson Namasiku Nalisa confirmed the notice, clarifying that the scaling down of the open pit operations is due to depleted ore reserves rather than the impacts of volatile resource prices.
