Expansion of Corruption Case Against Former SA Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula Announced by National Prosecuting Authority

Background

The South African National Prosecuting Authority has revealed its intention to include another accused in the corruption case against former . Following her resignation, Mapisa-Nqakula appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court and was granted bail of 50-thousand-rand. She faces allegations of soliciting over two-million-rand in bribes during her tenure as Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. The court postponed the matter until June 4th. State prosecutor Bheki Manyathi stated that Mapisa-Nqakula would not be restricted within the country but must surrender her passport by Monday.
