According to reports, some leaders within the Popular Democratic Movement are advocating for party leader McHenry Venaani to retain his position as president without contest during the upcoming congress, initially scheduled for last June. Member of parliament Vipuakuje Muharukua, previously considered a potential challenger to Venaani, stated that he is not interested in the top position. Venaani confirmed his intention to seek re-election at this year’s congress. Some party leaders indicate a movement within the party to discourage challenges to Venaani’s leadership.
