Indian opposition leaders hold hunger strike

todayApril 8, 2024 16

Background

An opposition party in India is holding another day-long hunger strike, to protest the arrest of a prominent leader from their ranks. Its supporters also held demonstrations in cities around the world over the weekend. Arvind Kejriwal, the sitting chief minister of Delhi, was arrested last month by India’s financial watchdog. Critics say his arrest is aimed at weakening the opposition’s fight against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this month’s elections. Priyata Brajabasi has more.
