Electoral Commission allocates N$269 million for November elections

Background

The Electoral Commission of Namibia has set aside N$269 million for the upcoming November elections. The allocation according to the Brief,  focuses on the General Registration of Voters and the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections, with N$3.5 million reserved for potential by-elections. The funds are also aimed at ensuring the participation of voters in the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the ECN unveiled the official timetable for the 2024 elections last month, marking key dates for voter registration, candidate nominations, and election day which is scheduled for the 27th of November 2024. The voter registration period is set to commence on the 3rd of June, continuing through to the 1st of August, and giving enough time for eligible citizens to register their vote.

Independent candidates seeking nomination are required to submit their applications by the 14th of October, while political parties must finalise their nominations by the 16th of October, ensuring a comprehensive pool of candidates for the electorate. For citisens living abroad, as well as seagoing personnel and members of the army, special provisions have been made. They will have the opportunity to cast their votes on the 13th of November, allowing their voices to be heard in the electoral process.
