SWAPO Members Advocate for Extraordinary Congress Despite Constitutional Clarification

Background

SWAPO backbencher Jerry Ekandjo and former works ministry permanent secretary Peter Mwatile recently met with SWAPO vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to advocate for the party to convene an extraordinary congress. This move comes despite the party’s clarification, conveyed by its lawyer Sisa Namandje, that SWAPO’s constitution does not explicitly mandate an extraordinary congress to be held three months after the death of a sitting president.
