South Africa’s Minister for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, is urging law enforcement agencies to address over 15,000 kidnapping cases reported by Statistics South Africa. Victims, including women, children, and the LGBTQ community, are forcibly taken by armed groups for financial or tactical gains. The department’s spokesperson, Cassius Selala, defines kidnapping as the unlawful seizure or taking away of another person against their will, also known as criminal abduction.
