Gobabis Municipality Councillors in Arrears with Residents’ Services Suspended

today19 April, 2024

Background

Five councillors of the Gobabis municipality collectively owe the town over N$650,000, while services for residents with overdue accounts are being suspended concurrently. Gobabis Chief Executive Sophia Eises confirmed the municipality’s practice of cutting off services to residents in arrears, stating that this is a routine measure unless payment arrangements are made. However, Eises declined to comment on the councillors’ outstanding debts. Reports indicate the mayor, her deputy, and three management committee members together owe the municipality the hefty amount.
