The High Court in Pretoria has ordered the Office of the South African Public Protector to submit its reasons today for not disbursing a ten-million-rand gratuity to former Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, as per the court’s directive. Delays in Mkhwebane’s urgent challenge were caused by the office’s failure to promptly provide essential documents. According to News24, Judge Colleen Collis attributed the application’s delayed readiness solely to the actions of the Public Protector’s office. The court has instructed the office to bear Mkhwebane’s costs on a punitive scale. The determination of her application to contest the non-payment of the gratuity is expected in the coming weeks.
