According to the latest Namibia Vital Statistics Report released by the Namibia Statistics Agency, approximately 72,000 out of roughly 85,000 children born in 2021 were born to unmarried parents. This statistic highlights that 84% of children registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security in that year were born to single parents. Experts have noted that factors such as unplanned pregnancies and teenage pregnancies contribute significantly to Namibia’s high rate of births out of wedlock.
