During the 2023 cropping season, the Shadikongoro Irrigation Green Scheme Project in the Kavango East Region yielded an income of N$7 million, with N$3.5 million in profit, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform’s Executive Director Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata. The project aims to produce cooking oil from sunflowers, with 24 hectares planted to revive the sunflower processing facility. An additional 16 hectares of sunflowers from the Sikondo Green Scheme Irrigation Project in Kavango West Region will be processed at Shadikongoro. The scheme employed 60 temporary workers for sunflower harvesting and plans to hire more for the oil processing plant.
