In a recent development concerning the ongoing saga between the Katutura Residents Committee and the City of Windhoek, committee member Shaun Gariseb has stepped forward to shed light on the latest update. The situation, fraught with frustration and a lack of cooperation, has led the committee to consider legal action as their next course of action.
Gariseb’s statements, delivered with a sense of urgency and determination, underscore the gravity of the situation. “Look, it has become very necessary to approach the courts,” he asserts. “The city of Windhoek is not forthcoming. They are undermining the institutions that we rely on or are rather not cooperative with them.”
The frustrations Gariseb expresses are not isolated but shared by other regulatory bodies. “The ombudsman has been patient with them, but they are not forthcoming,” he explains. “They are not cooperative. The competition commission is also having frustrations with the city of Windhoek.”
Confronted with such resistance, the Katutura Residents Committee has decided to take decisive action. “So we have now deemed it fit to give them a final warning and through a letter of demand with our lawyers,” Gariseb reveals. “And should they not come forth, we will go to court. That is the only way we are going to get what we want out of these people.”
This decision comes from a place of unwavering resolve. “We are adamant about what we stand on,” Gariseb emphasizes. “And they know we are having a very good position. That is why they are not willing to disclose public documents, documents that we are even requesting through the correct institutions.”
The reluctance of the City of Windhoek to cooperate has not gone unnoticed by the relevant authorities. “Even those institutions have picked up that these people are hiding something,” Gariseb asserts. “So this is the best avenue that we arrived at, and we are exploring that.”
The words of Shaun Gariseb echo the sentiments of a community that refuses to be silenced or sidelined. The pursuit of justice and transparency remains paramount, and the Katutura Residents Committee is prepared to take whatever steps necessary to achieve it. As they navigate the legal landscape, their message to the City of Windhoek is clear: the time for accountability is now.
