Beijing hits back as US proposes new tariffs on Chinese imports

Background

China has spoken out against a move by the United States to hike tariffs on US$18 billion worth of Chinese imports such as electric vehicles, advanced batteries, solar cells, steel, aluminium and medical equipment. The tariffs on EVs are set to quadruple to 100 percent this year, while those for semiconductors, will double from 25 percent to 50 percent by next year. Laura Westbrook has more from Hong Kong
