today15 May, 2024

Background

The manhunt for an escaped prisoner has entered a second day in France. Two prison officers were shot dead in the attack on the convoy, and another three wounded.

More than 450 police officers and gendarmes had been mobilised from Tuesday for the search in the northern department of Eure where the attack took place, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said. The Independent online meanwhile reports that an international arrest warrant has been issued in the “unprecedented” manhunt for the escaped French inmate nicknamed ‘The Fly’. Interpol said in a statement on Wednesday that it has issued a ‘Red Notice’ search warrant for fugitive Mohamed Amra, 30, at the request of France’s authorities.
